ślō|| tatō rāvaṇa nītāyāḥ sītāyāḥ śatrukarṣaṇaḥ |
iyēṣapadamanvēṣṭuṁ cāraṇācaritē pathē ||1||

sa||tataḥ rāvaṇa nītāyāḥ sītāyāḥ padaṁ anvēṣṭuṁ (hanumān) śatrukarṣaṇaḥ cāraṇācaritē pathi (carituṁ)iyēṣa ||

Then following the path of the celestial bards Hanuman the destroyer of enemies resolved to search for Sita carried away by Ravana.

ślō|| duṣkarṣaṁ niṣpratidvaṁdvaṁ cikīrṣan karma vānaraḥ |
samudagra śirōgrīvō gavāṁpatirivābabhau|| 2 ||
atha vaiḍūrya varṇēṣu śādvalēṣu mahābalaḥ |
dhīrassalilakalpēṣu vicacāra yathāsukham ||3||

sa|| vānaraḥ duṣkaraṁ karma niṣpratidvaṁdvaṁ cikīrṣan samudagra śirō grīvaḥ (saḥ vānaraḥ) gavāṁpati iva babhau|atha hanumān dhīraḥ mahābalaḥ vaiḍūrya varṇēṣu salila kalpēṣu śādvalēṣu yathā sukhaṁ vicacāra ||

Intending to accomplish the very difficult action ( of crossing the ocean) which had no rival, he raised his head and neck. Then he appeared like the king of bulls. Then the mighty Hanuman strolled on the green grassy lands with a sheet of water happily.

ślō|| dvijān vitrāśayan dhīmān urasā pādapān haran |
mr̥gāṁśca subahūn nighnan pravr̥ddha va kēśarī ||4 ||
nīlalōhita māṁjiṣṭa patravarṇasitāsitaiḥ |
svabhāva vihitaiścitaiḥ dhātubhiḥ samalaṁkr̥tam ||5 ||

sa|| dhīmān (hanumataḥ) dvijān subahūn mr̥gāṁśca vitrāśayan pravr̥ddhaḥ pādapān urasā haran kēśarī iva (vicacāra)||( saḥ girivaryaḥ ) svabhāva vihitaiḥ citraiḥ nīla lōhita māṁjiṣṭa patravarṇaiḥ sitāsitaiḥ (ca) dhātubhiḥ samalaṁkr̥taṁ ||

The wise Hanuman scaring the birds and many other animals, uprooting and trampling the trees with his chest, went about like a lion. (The mountain) with its natural blue red green and yellow colors as well as white and black colors of minerals looked like it is decorated all over.

ślō|| kāmarūpibhirāviṣṭam abhīkṣṇaṁ saparichchadaiḥ |
yakṣakinnara gaṁdharvaiḥ dēvakalpaiśca pannagaiḥ ||6||
sa tasya girivarasya talē nāgavarāyutē |
tiṣṭhan kapivaraḥ tatra hradē nāga iva babhau || 7 ||

sa|| (saḥ girivaryaḥ) kāmarūpibhiḥ yakṣa kinnara gaṁdharvaiḥ pannagaiḥ saparicchadaiḥ abhīkṣaṇam daivakalpaiścaāviṣṭhaṁ || sa kapivaraḥ nāgavarāyutē tasya girivarasya hr̥dē talē tiṣṭhan nāgaḥ iva ababhau||

(The mountain) was very much occupied by ,Yakshas, Kinnaras Gandharvas ,Pannagas and people who take any form they please, surrounded by their retinues. They were looking like gods. The best of Vanaras standing at the center of that mountain filled with lordly elephants looked like an elephant.

ślō|| sa sūryāya mahēṁdrāya pavanāya svayaṁbhuvē |
bhūtēbhyaścāñjaliṁ kr̥tvā cakāra gamanē matim ||8 ||

añjaliṁ prājñmukhaṁ kr̥tvā pavanāyātma yōnayē |
tatō'bhivavr̥dhē gaṁtuṁ dakṣiṇō dakṣiṇāṁ diśam ||9||

sa|| saḥ sūryāya mahēṁdrāya pavanāya svayaṁbhuvē bhūtēbhyaḥ aṁjaliṁ kr̥tvā gamanē matiṁ cakāra ||prājṅmukhaḥ ātmayōnayē pavanāya aṁjaliṁ kr̥tvā tataḥ dakṣiṇaḥ hanumān dakṣiṇadiśaṁ gaṁtuṁ vavr̥dhē hi||

Offering salutations to Sun, Indra, Vayu, the creator and all the elements , he decided in his mind to proceed (to Lanka). Facing east offering salutations to his father , the wind god, the capable Hanuman grew in size to go in southern direction.

ślō|| plavaṅgapravarairdr̥ṣṭaḥ plavanē kr̥ta niścayaḥ
vavr̥dhē rāmavr̥dhyarthaṁ samudra iva parvasu || 10 ||
niṣpramāṇaśarīrassan liliṁghayiṣurarṇavam |
bāhubhyāṁ pīḍayāmāsa carāṇābhyāṁ ca parvatam || 11 ||

sa|| (yadā) plavaṅga pravaraiḥ dr̥ṣṭaḥ - (tadā) plavanē kr̥ta niścayaḥ hanumān rāmavr̥dhyartham parvasu ( parvadinēṣu) samudra iva vavr̥dhē (yathā) || niṣpramāṇa śarīraḥ san arṇavam (sāgaraṁ) liliṁghayiṣu bāhubhyāṁ caraṇābhyāṁ ca parvatam pīḍayāmāsa||

While being seen by the Vanara chiefs, then having resolved to take a leap for achieving the task of Rama, Hanuman grew like the sea during the full moon days. With an immeasurable size of body to cross the ocean Hanuman started to put pressure on the mountain with his feet and hands.

ślō|| sa cacālacalaścāpi muhūrtaṁ kapi pīḍitaḥ |
tarūṇāṁ puṣpitāgrāṇāṁ sarvaṁ puṣpamaśātayan ||12 ||
tēna pādapamuktēna puṣpaughēṇa sugandhinā |
parvataḥ saṁvr̥taśśailō babhau puṣpamayō yathā ||13 ||

sa|| acalaścāpi kapi pīḍitaḥ muhūrtam cacāla | (tadā) puṣpitāgrāṇāṁ tarūṇāṁ sarvaṁ puṣpaṁ asātayan||śailaḥ pādapamuktēna sugandhinā puṣpaughēṇa saṁvr̥taḥ puṣpamayō parvataḥ yathā babhau||

The immovable one ( the mountain) also for a moment was shaken by the Vanara. Then the flowers on the top of trees full of trees fell down. The mountain covered with the fragrant flowers fallen from the trees, looked like a mountain of flowers.

ślō|| tēna cōttama vīryēṇa pīḍyamānassa parvataḥ |
salilaṁ saṁprasusrāva madaṁ matta iva dvipaḥ ||14 ||
pīḍyamānastu balinā mahēndrastēna parvataḥ |
rītiḥ nirvavartayāmāsa kāñcanāñjanarājatīḥ || 15 ||

sa|| tēna uttamavīryēṇa pīḍitaḥ saḥ parvataḥ mattaḥ dvipaḥ madaṁ iva salilaṁ suśrāva||mahēndra parvataḥ tēna balinā pīḍyamānaḥ kāñcanāṁjana rājatīḥ rītiḥ nirvartayāmāsa||

Then pressed by the highly valiant one, that mountain let go of waters like the elephant in rut. The Mahendra mountain , pressurized by his might , let go of streams of gold and silver.

ślō|| mumōca ca śilāśśailō viśālāsamanaśśilāḥ |
madhyamēnārciṣā juṣṭhō dhūmarājīḥ ivānalaḥ|| 16||
giriṇāpīḍyamānēna pīḍyamānāni sarvataḥ |
guhāviṣṭhāni bhūtāni vinēdurvikr̥taiḥ svaraiḥ ||17||

sa|| śailaḥ viśālāḥ śilāḥ samanaḥ śilāḥ mumōca (yathā) madhyamēna arciṣā dhūmarājīriva analaḥ juṣṭāḥ||giriṇā sarvataḥ pīḍyamānāni guhāviṣṭāni bhūtāni pīḍyamānēna vikr̥taiḥ svaraiḥ vinēduḥ ||

The mountain let go of big boulders with Sulphur pigments just like fire emits columns of smoke possessed with fire. Being shaken by the mountain all the beings living in the caves shrieked with horrible sounds.

ślō|| sa mahāsatva sannādaḥ śailapīḍānimittajaḥ |
pr̥thivīṁ pūrayāmāsa diśaścōpavanāni ca ||18||
śirōbhiḥ pr̥thibhiḥ sarpā vyakta svastikalakṣaṇaiḥ |
vamantaḥ pāvakaṁ ghōraṁ dadaṁśuḥ daśanaiśśilāḥ ||19||

sa||śailapīḍā nimittajaḥ saḥ mahāsattva sannādaḥ pr̥thivīn diśaśca upavanāni ca pūrayāmāsa||sarpāḥ vyakta svastika lakṣaṇaiḥ pr̥thubhiḥ śirōbhiḥ ghōraṁ pāvakaṁ vamantaḥ daśanaiḥ śilāḥ dadaṁśuḥ ||

Caused by the crushing power of the mountain, the loud noises made by all the creatures filled all the all the groves on earth in all directions. The snakes with the signs of swastika on their foreheads bit the rocks with their fangs producing great fire.

ślō|| tāstadā saviṣaiḥ daṣṭāḥ kupitaiḥ taiḥ mahāśilāḥ |
jajvaluḥ pāvakōddīptā bibhiduśca sahasrathā ||20||
yāni cauṣadhajālāni tasmin jātāni parvatē |
viṣaghnānyapi nāgānāṁ na śēkuḥ śamitaṁ viṣaṁ||21||

sa|| tadā kupitaiḥ saviṣaiḥ ( sarpaiḥ) daṣṭā mahāśilāḥ pāvakōdadīptāḥ jajvaluḥ sahasradhā bibidhuḥ ca||tasmin parvatē jātāni auṣadhajalāni nāgānāṁ śamitaṁ viṣaṁ viṣaghnānyapi na śēkuḥ ||

Then the mountain bitten by the angry and venomous snakes and burnt by the fire broke into thousands of pieces. The medicinal plants capable of counteracting the poisons, grown on the mountain were not enough to neutralize the poison ( spewed by the snakes).

ślō|| bhidyatē'yaṁ girirbhū tairiti matvā tapasvinaḥ |
trastā vidhyādharaḥ tasmāt utpētuḥ strīgaṇaisaha||22||
pānabhūmigataṁ hitvā haimamāsavabhājanam|
pātrāṇi ca mahārhāṇi karakāṁśca hiraṇmayān ||23||

sa|| ayaṁ giriḥ bhūtaiḥ bhidyatē iti matvā trastā tapasvinaḥ (tathaiva) strīgaṇaiḥ saha vidhyādharaḥ tasmāt utpētuḥ||mahārhāṇi pātrāṇi haima māsava bhājanaṁ hiranmayān karakāṁśca hitvā ||

Thinking that this mountain is breaking up , the scared ascetics as well as the Vidyadharas along with their women folk flew up in fear. The valuable vessels , golden drinking cups with golden goblets were left behind .

ślō|| lēhyānuccāvacān bhakṣyān māṁsāni vividhāni ca|
ārṣabhāṇī ca carmāṇi khaḍgāṁśca kanakatsarūn ||24||
kr̥takaṇṭhaguṇāḥ kṣībā raktamālyānulēpanaḥ|
raktākṣāḥ puṣkarākṣāśca gaganaṁ pratipēdirē ||25||

sa|| (vidhyādharāḥ) lēhyān uccāvacān bhakṣyān vividhāni māṁsāni ca arṣabhāṇi carmāṇi kanakatsarūn khaḍgāṁ ca hitvā (utpētuḥ)|| vidhyādharāḥ kṣībāḥ kr̥takaṁṭhagaṇāḥ raktākṣāḥ puṣkarākṣaḥ ca raktamālyānu lēpanaḥ gaganaṁ pratipēdirē||

Food that was licked , various type of small and big eatables, meat , hides of bulls , swords covered with golden sheaths were all left behind. The Vidyadharas, intoxicated , wearing chains, with red lotus like eyes, wearing garlands and red unguents flew into the sky.

ślō|| hāranūpūra kēyūra pārihāryadharāḥ striyaḥ |
vismitāḥ sasmitāstasthurākāśē ramaṇaiḥ saha ||26||
darśayantō mahāvidyāṁ vidyādharamaharṣayaḥ |
sahitāstasthurākāśē vīkṣāṁcakruśca parvatam ||27||

sa|| vismitāḥ sasmitāḥ hāranūpūra kēyūra pārihārya dharāḥ striyaḥ ramaṇaiḥ saha ākāśē tasthuḥ|| vidhyādhara maharṣayaḥ sahitāḥ mahāvidyāṁ darśayantaḥ ākāśē tasthuḥ vīkṣāṁcakruśca parvatam||

Wonder struck women wearing necklaces , anklets and armlets stayed in the sky with their lovers smiling gently. The great seers among Vidyadharas, proficient in all studies, were also watching the mountain, staying up in the sky.

ślō|| śuśruvuśca tadāśabdaṁ r̥ṣīṇāṁ bhāvitātmanāṁ|
cāraṇānāṁśca siddhānāṁ sthitānāṁ vimalē'mbarē||28||
ēṣaparvata saṅkāśō hanumān mārutātmajaḥ|
titīrṣati mahāvēgaḥ samudraṁ makarālayam ||29||
rāmārthaṁ vānarārthaṁ ca cikīrṣan karma duṣkaram|
samudrasya paraṁ pāraṁ duṣprāpaṁ prāptumicchati ||30||

sa|| tadā r̥ṣīṇāṁ bhāvitātmanāṁ cāraṇānāṁ siddhānāṁ ca vimalē ambarē sthitānāṁ śabdaṁ śuśruvuḥ||ēṣaḥ parvata saṅkāśaḥ mārutātmajaḥ mahāvēgaḥ hanumān makarālayaṁ samudraṁ titīrṣati|| rāmārthaṁ vānarārthaṁ ca duṣkaraṁ karma cikīrṣan samudrasya duṣprāpaṁ paraṁ pāraṁ prāptuṁ icchati||

Then the sounds of seers who are seekers of truth, Siddhas, Charanas who stay in the skies were heard. ( They said ) 'This son of wind god, swift Hanuman of the size of a mountain is desiring to cross the ocean which is the abode of crocodiles. For the sake of Rama and for the sake of Vanaras, to achieve a difficult task he wants to reach the other shore of the ocean which is difficult to reach '.

ślō|| iti vidyādharāḥ śrutvā vacastēṣāṁ tapasvinām|
tamapramēyaṁ dadr̥śuḥ parvatē vānararṣabham||31||
dudhuvēca sa rōmāṇi cakaṁpē cāca lōpamaḥ|
nanāda su mahānādaṁsu mahāniva tōyadaḥ||32||
ānupūrvēṇa vr̥ttasya lāṅgūlaṁ lōmabhiścitam|
utpatiṣyan vicikṣēpa pakṣirāja ivōragam ||33||

sa||tēṣāṁ vidhyādharaḥ tapasvināṁ vacaḥ śrutvā parvatē apramēyaṁ taṁ vānarararṣabhaṁ dadruśuḥ|| sumahān saḥ acalōpamaḥ rōmāṇi dudhuvē (tataḥ) tōyadaḥ iva sumahānādaṁ nanāda || pakṣirājaḥ uragaṁ iva lōmabhiḥ vr̥taṁ citaṁ lāṅgūlaṁ ānupūryēṇa utpatiṣyan vicikṣēpa||

The Vidyadharas having heard the words of the ascetics, saw Hanuman the bull among Vanaras whose strength is unmeasurable. The great one as huge as a mountain shook his hair on his body and produced a great sound thundering like a cloud. Like the king of birds shaking a serpent, he shook his tail covered with hair in order to take off.

ślō|| tasya lāṅgūlamāviddha mātta vēgasya pr̥ṣṭhataḥ|
dadr̥śē garuḍē nēva hriyamāṇō mahōragaḥ ||34||
bāhūsaṁstambhayāmāsa mahā parigha sannibhau |
sasāda ca kapiḥ kaṭyāṁ caraṇau sañcukōca ca||35||

sa|| āttavēgasya tasya pr̥ṣṭhataḥ garuḍēna hriyamāṇaḥ mahōragaḥ iva lāṅgūlaṁ aviddhaṁ|| kapiḥ mahāparighasannibhau bāhuḥ saṁstambhayāmāsa kaṭyāṁ sasāda caraṇau saṁcukōca ca ||

The tail curled at his back looked like the great serpent being carried off by Garuda. The Vanara pressing down his arms looking like iron clubs firmly on the mountain, crouched his waist and contracted his feet.

ślō|| saṁhr̥tya ca bhujau śrīmān tathaiva ca śirōdharām|
tējaḥ sattvaṁ tathā vīrya māvivēśa sa vīryavān ||36||
mārgamālōkayan dūrā dūrdhvaṁ praṇihitēkṣaṇaḥ|
rurōda hr̥dayē prāṇān ākāśamavalōkayan ||37||

sa|| vīryavān śrīmān hanumān bhujau tathaiva śirōdharām saṁhr̥tya sattvaṁ tathā tējaḥ āvivēśa|| ūrdhvaṁ praṇihitēkṣaṇaḥ dūrāt ākāśaṁ mārgaṁ avalōkayan prāṇān hr̥dayē rurōda||

The glorious Hanuman contracted his shoulders and the head similarly, and summoned up energy as well as vigor. Setting up his eyes to look up in the direction in which he has to leap , he restrained his breath in his chest.

ślō|| padbhyāṁ dr̥ḍhamavasthānaṁ kr̥tvā sa kapikuṁjaraḥ|
nikuñcya karṇau hanumān utpatiṣyan mahābalaḥ|
vānarān vānaraśrēṣṭha idaṁ vacana mabravīt |||38||

sa|| kapikuṁjaraḥ mahābalaḥ padbhyāṁ dr̥ḍhaṁ avasthānam karṇau nikuṁcya utpatiṣyan (kiṁ karōti?) vānarān vānaraśrēṣṭhaṁ idaṁ vacanaṁ abravīt ||

The elephant among the Vanaras, keeping his feet firmly in that position, contracting his ears, ready to fly said the following to the Vanaras.

ślō|| yathā rāghava nirmuktaḥ śśaraśśvasana vikramaḥ |
gacchēttadvadgamiṣyāmi laṅkāṁ rāvaṇapālitām||39||
na hi drakṣyāmi yadi tāṁ laṅkāyāṁ janakātmajām||
anēnaiva hi vēgēna gamiṣyāmi surālayam ||40||

sa|| yathā rāghava nirmuktaḥ śaraḥ gacchēt tadvat śvasana vikramaḥ rāvaṇapālitām laṅkāṁ gamiṣyāmi||(yadi) laṅkāyāṁ tāṁ janakātmajaṁ na drakṣyāmi anēna vēgēnaiva hi surālayaṁ gamiṣyāmi ||

With the speed of wind, like the arrow released by Rama (I) will go the Lanka ruled by Ravana. If I do not see Janaka's daughter in Lanka, then with the same speed I will go to the abode of gods,

ślō|| yadi vā tridivē sītāṁ na drakṣyā myakr̥ta śramaḥ|
baddvā rākṣasa rājānaṁ ānayiṣyāmi sarāvaṇam||41||
sarvathā kr̥takāryō'haṁ ēṣyāmi saha sītayā |
ānayiṣyāmi vā laṅkāṁ samutpāṭya sa rāvaṇam||42||

sa|| yadi tridivē sītāṁ nadrakṣyāmi (tadā) akr̥ta śramaḥ rākṣasa rājānaṁ sa rākṣasaṁ baddhvā ānayiṣyāmi|| sarvathā kr̥ta kāryaḥ saha sītayā ahaṁ ēṣyāmi | vā laṅkāṁ sa rāvaṇam samutpāṭya ānayiṣyāmi ||

If I do not find Sita in heaven in spite of all my efforts, then I will bind that king of Rakshasas and bring him here. By all means completing my task I will come back here along with Sita. Otherwise I will uproot Lanka along with Ravana and bring him here l

ślō|| ēvamuktvātu hanumān vānarān vānarōttamaḥ |
utpapātha vēgēna vēgavān avicārayan ||43||
suparṇamiva ca ātmānaṁ mēnē sa kapikuṁjaraḥ ||44||

sa|| ēvaṁ uktvā vānarān vānarōttamaḥ hanumān vēgavān vēgēna avicārayan utpapātha|| saḥ kapikuṁjaraḥ ātmānaṁ suparṇamiva mēnē||

Having said this to Vanaras the best among Vanaras, the swift Hanuman leaped without any effort. The elephant among Vanaras thought himself like the bird Suparna.

ślō|| samutpatati tasmiṁstu vēgāttē naga rōhiṇaḥ|
saṁhr̥tya viṭapān sarvān samutpētuḥ samaṁtataḥ||45||
sa mattakōyaṣṭimakān pādapān puṣpaśālinaḥ |
udvahannūruvēgēna jagāma vimalē'mbarē ||46||

sa|| (yadā) tasmin vēgāt samutpatati (tadā) sarvān nagarōhiṇaḥ viṭapān saṁhr̥tya samaṁtataḥ samutpētuḥ|| puṣpaśālinaḥ pādapān ūru vēgēna mattakōyaṣṭimakān udvahan saḥ vimalē aṁbarē jagāma||

As he took off with speed, all the trees with branches flew along with him. The speed of his thighs uprooted the trees full of flowers along with the intoxicated birds on the tree as he coursed along the cloudless sky.

ślō|| ūru vēgōddhatā vr̥kṣā muhūrtaṁ kapi manvayuḥ|
prasthitaṁ dīrghamadhvānaṁ svabandhumiva bāndhavāḥ||47||
ta mūru vēgōnmathitā ssālāścānyē nagōttamāḥ|
anujagmurhanūmantaṁ sainyā iva mahīpatim||48||

sa|| ūruvēgōththitāḥ vr̥kṣāḥ svabandhuṁ dīrghamadhvānaṁ prasthitaṁ bāndhavāḥ iva muhūrtam anvayuḥ||ūruvēgōnmathitāḥ sālāḥ anyē nagōttamāḥ mahīpatiṁ sainyā iva taṁ hanūmantaṁ anujagmuḥ||

Pulled along by the speed of his thighs, the trees followed for a distance like the relatives follow the kin on a long journey. Uprooted by the force of his thighs, Sala trees and other great trees followed him like the army following the king.

ślō|| supuṣitāgrairbhahubhiḥ pādapairanvitaḥ kapiḥ |
hanumān parvatākārō bhabhūvādbhuta darśanaḥ||49||
sāravantō'dhayē vr̥kṣānyamajjan lavaṇāṁbhasi|
bhayādiva mahēndrasya parvatā varuṇālayē ||50||

sa||bahubhiḥ supuṣpitāgraiḥ pādapaiḥ anvitaḥ kapiḥ hanumān parvatākāraḥ adbhuta darśanaḥ babhūva||atha sāravantaḥ yē vr̥kṣāḥ varuṇālayē parvatāḥ mahēndrasya bhayāt iva lavaṇāṁbhasi nyamajjan||

With many trees having blossoms at the top following him, the Vanara, mountain like Hanuman appeared in a fantastic form. Then the huge trees fell into the ocean like the mountains which fell into the sea out of fear of Indra.

ślō|| sa nānā kusumaiḥ kīrṇaḥ kapiḥ sāṅkura kōrakaiḥ|
śuśubhē mēgha saṅkāśaḥ khadyōtairiva parvataḥ ||51||
vimuktāḥ tasya vēgēna muktvā puṣpāṇi tē drumāḥ |
avaśīryanta salilē nivr̥ttāḥ suhr̥dō yathā ||52||

sa|| nānā kusumaiḥ sāṅkura kōrakaiḥ kīrṇaḥ saḥ mēgha saṅkāśaḥ kapiḥ khadyōtaiḥ parvataḥ iva śuśubhē|| tasya vēgēna vimuktāḥ tē drumāḥ puṣpāṇi ca muktvā salilē avaśīryanta yathā nivr̥ttāḥ suhr̥dā (iva)||

Covered with many different kinds of flowers , buds and sprouts spread over like a cloud, Hanuman shone brightly like a mountain covered with fireflies. Free of his speed the trees shedding the flowers fell off into the sea like the friends who return after following for some distance.

drumāṇāṁ vivitham puṣpaṁ kapivāyu samīritam||53||
tārāśata mivākāśaṁ prabhabhau sa mahārṇavaḥ|

sa|| kapivāyusamīritaṁ drumāṇāṁ vividhaṁ vicitraṁ puṣpaṁ laghutvē tat sāgarē apatat || laghutvēna upapannaṁ (puṣpēṇa) tat maharṇavaḥ tārācitaṁ ākāśamiva prabhabau||

Driven by the wind caused by the speed of the Vanara, the trees with variety of flowers being light fell on the ocean. The trees and flowers being light rose up in the sea and the sea shone like the sky with stars.

ślō|| puṣpaughē nānubaddhēna nānāvarṇēna vānaraḥ |
babhau mēgha ivākāśē vidyudgaṇa vibhūṣitaḥ|||54||
tasya vēga samadhūtaiḥ puṣpaiḥ tōyamadr̥śyata ||55||
tārābhi rabhirāmābhi ruditābhi rivāmbaram|

sa|| nānāvarṇēna (puṣpēṇa) puṣpaughēṇa anubaddhēna saḥ vānaraḥ ākāśē vidyut-gaṇa vibhūṣitaḥ mēgha iva babhau||tasya vēga samādhūtaiḥ puṣpaiḥ tōyaḥ adr̥śyata (yathā..) uditābhiḥ abhirāmābhiḥ tārābhiḥ ambaraṁ iva||

Stuck with flowers of different colors , the Vanara looked like the clouds glowing with lightnings. The sea water, with the flowers dropped by his speed, looked like the firmament with rising stars.

parvatāgrāt viṣkrāntau pañcāsyāviva pannagau|
pibanniva babhau cāpi sōrmimālaṁ mahārṇavam||57||
pipāsu riva cākāśaṁ dadr̥śē sa mahākapiḥ |

sa|| sōrmimālaṁ mahārṇavaṁ ākāśaṁ ca pipāśuḥ pibanniva saḥ mahākapiḥ dadr̥śē|| tasya praśāritau aṁbara gatau bāhuḥ parvatāgrāt viniṣkrāntau pañcāsyaḥ pannagaḥ iva dadruśātē ||

The arms stretched out in the sky emerging from the mountain looked like five headed serpents. The great Vanara looked like a thirsty one drinking the sea with rising waves , also the sky.

ślō|| tasya vidyutprabhākārē vāyu mārgānu sāriṇaḥ ||58||
nayanē viprakāśētē parvatasthāvivānalau|
piṅgē piṅgākṣamukhyasya br̥hatī parimaṇḍalē ||59||
cakṣuṣī saṁprakāśētē candrasūryāvivōditau |

sa|| vāyumārgānusāriṇaḥ tasya vidyutprabhākārē nayanē parvatasthau analau iva viprakāśētē|| piṅgākṣamukhyasya piṅgē br̥hatī parimaṁḍalē cakṣuṣī uditau caṁdra sūryāviva saṁprakāśētē||

Following the path of the winds, his eyes resembling glow of lightning, looked like two fires burning on the mountain. The large reddish brown eyes of the Vanara chief shone like the rising Sun and Moon.

ślō|| mukhaṁ nāsikayā tasya tāmrayā tāmra mābabhau ||60||
sandhyayā samabhispr̥ṣṭaṁ yathā tatsūryamaṁḍalam |
lāṅgūlaṁ ca samāviddham plavamānasya śōbhatē ||61||
aṁbarē vāyuputrasya śakradhvaja ivōcchritam|

sa|| tasya tāmraṁ mukhaṁ tāmrayā nāśikayā sandhyayā samabhispr̥ṣṭaṁ tat sūryamaṁḍalaṁ yathā ābabhau ||aṁbarē vāyuputrasya plavamānasyalāṅgūlaṁ ucchritaṁ śakradhvaja ivaśōbhatē||

His copper colored face with red nose with the twilight coming close looked like the Sun's orb. The lifted up tail of the son of wind god shone like the flag staff of Indra.

vyarōcata mahāprājñaḥ parivēṣīva bhāskaraḥ|
sphigdēśē nābhitāmrēṇa rarāja sa mahākapiḥ||63||

sa|| śukladaṁṣṭraḥ mahāprājñaḥ mahān anilātmajaḥ lāṁgūla cakrēṇā parivēṣīva bhāskaraḥ iva vyarōcata|| saḥ mahākapi abhitāmrēṇa sphigdēśēna dāritēna ivamahatā gairika dhātunā giriḥ iva rarāja||

With white teeth, the very wise son of Vayu, with curled up tail looked like the Sun covered with halo. The great Vanara with copper red buttocks shone like a mountain filled with deposits of red minerals.

kakṣāṁtaragatō vāyurjīmūta iva garjati|
khē yathā nipatantyulkā hyuttarāntāt vinissr̥tāḥ||65||
dr̥śyatē sānubandhā ca tathā sa kapikuñjaraḥ |

sa|| sāgaram plavamānasya vānarasiṁhasya kakṣāṁtaragataḥ vāyuḥ jīmūtaḥ iva garjati||uttarāntāt viniḥsrutā sānubandhāca ulkā khē yathā dr̥śyatē tathā nipatati||

The air passing through the arm pits of the lion among Vanaras crossing the ocean sounded like a thundering cloud. The elephant like Vanara appeared like a meteor released from the northern part following a path in the sky falling down ( in the southern hemisphere).

ślō|| patatpataṅga saṅkāśō vyāyata śśuśubhē kapiḥ||66||
pravr̥ddha iva mātaṅgaḥ kakṣyayā badhyamānayā|
uparisṭāt śarīrēṇa chāyayā cāva gāḍhayā ||67||
sāgarē mārutāviṣṭau nau rivā''sīttadā kapiḥ |

sa||patatpataṁga saṁkāśaḥ vyāyataḥ kapiḥ badhyamānayā kakṣyayā pravr̥ddhaḥ mātaṁgaḥ iva śuśubhē||tadā kapiḥ upariṣṭāt śarīrēṇa sāgarē avagāḍhayā chāyayā ca mārutāviṣṭa nauri iva āsīt||

Looking like the moving sun coursing through the sky, the broad Vanara with tail bound around his girth looked like an elephant bound round the waist. With Vanara on the top, his shadow on the ocean looked like a ship swept by the wind.

ślō|| yaṁ yaṁ dēśaṁ samudrasya jagāma sa mahākapiḥ ||68||
sa sa tasyōruvēgēna sōnmāda iva lakṣyatē|
sāgara syōrmijālānā murasā śailavarṣmaṇām||69||
abhighnaṁstu mahāvēgaḥ pupluvē sa mahākapiḥ|

sa|| saḥ mahākapiḥ samudrasya yaṁ yaṁ dēśaṁ jagāma saḥ saḥ tasya ūruvēgēna sōnmādaḥ iva lakṣyatē||(yadā) saḥ mahāvēgaḥ kapiḥ pupluvē (tadā) sāgarasya ūrmijālanāṁ śailavarṣaṇām urasā abhighnan||

Whichever place over which he flew those places ( in the ocean) appeared as riotous with eddies being formed because of the speed of his thighs. As the Vanara flew with high speed then the oceanic waves seemed to rise up to mountainous proportions as though touching his chest.

sāgaraṁ bhīma nirghōṣaṁ kampayāmāsatu rbhr̥śam|
vikarṣannūrmi jālāni br̥hanti lavaṇāmbhasi||71||
pupluvē kapiśārdūlō vikaranniva rōdasī|

sa||balavān kapivātasya niḥ sr̥taḥ mēghavātaḥ ca bhīma nirghōṣaṁ (ca) sāgaraṁ bhr̥śaṁ kampayāmāsatuḥ ||(yadā) kapiśārdūlaḥ pupluvē (tadā) lavaṇāmbhasi ūrmijālāni vikarṣan vikaranniva rōdasī||

The forceful wind generated by the mighty Vanara, which was rushing towards the wind generated by the clouds which were agitating the ocean violently, generated dreadful sounds. As the tiger among the Vanaras flew forward, it looked like he is occupying the intermediary space between the sky and the earth.

ślō|| mērumandara saṅkāśā nuddhatān sa mahārṇavē||72||
atikrāman mahāvēgaḥ taraṅgān gaṇayanniva |
tasyavēga samuddhūtaṁ jalaṁ sajalaṁ yathā ||73||
ambarasthaṁ vibabhrāja śāradābhra mivātatam |

sa||mahāvēgaḥ mahārṇavē uddhatān mērumaṁdara saṅkāśān taraṅgān gaṇayan iva saḥ atyakrāmat || tadā tasya vēga samuddhatam sajaladam jalaṁ ambarastham ātatam śāradābhramiva vibabhrāja ||

The Hanuman who is travelling at high speed seemed to be counting the mighty waves like Meru and Mandara as he crossed. The waters pushed up by his speed, along with the clouds in the sky shone like out stretched autumnal clouds.

ślō|| timinakra jhuṣāḥ kūrmā dr̥śyaṁtē vivr̥tāstadā ||74||
vastrāpakarṣaṇē nēva śarīrāṇi śarīriṇām |
plavamānaṁ samīkṣyātha bhujaṅgāssāgarālayāḥ ||75||
vyōmnitaṁ kapiśārdūlaṁ suparṇa iti mēnirē |

sa|| tadā timinakrajhuṣāḥ kūrmāḥ vastrāpakarṣaṇēna śarīriṇāṁ śarīrāṇīva vivr̥tāḥ dr̥śyantē|| atha vyōmni plavamānaṁ taṁ samīkṣya sāgarālayāḥ bhujaṁgāḥ (taṁ) kapiśārdūlaṁ suparṇaḥ iti mēnirē ||

Then the whales crocodiles and tortoises appeared bare like bodies without clothes . Seeing Hanuman the tiger among Vanaras, coursing through the sky the serpents in the ocean thought him to be Garuda.

chāyā vānarasiṁhasya jalē cārutarā-'bhavat|
śvētābhra ghanarājīva vāyuputtrānugāminī||77||
tasya sā śuśubhē chāyā vitatā lavaṇāṁbhasi|

sa|| daśayōjana vistīrṇā triṁśat yōjanam āyatā vānarasiṁhasya chāyā jalē cārutarā abhavat||vāyuputrānugāminī lavaṇāṁbhasi vitatā tasya sā chāyā śvētābhraghanarājīva śuśubhē ||

The ten Yojana wide thirty Yojana long Vanaras shadow appeared more pleasing. The broad shadow of the son of wind god , following him shone like a dark row of clouds sailing in the sky.

vāyumārgē nirālambē pakṣavāniva parvataḥ|
yēnā'sau yāti balavān vēgēna sa kapikuñjaraḥ ||79||
tēna mārgēṇa sahasā drōṇīkr̥ta ivārṇavaḥ|

sa||mahātējaḥ mahākāyaḥ saḥ mahākapiḥ nirālaṁbē vāyumārgē pakṣavān parvata iva śuśubhē|| balavān asau kapikuñjaraḥ vēgēna yēna mārgēṇa yāti tēna sahasā arṇavaḥ drōṇīkr̥ta iva ( adr̥śyat)

Glorious Vanara with great body coursing through the skies without any support looked like a mountain with wings. As this powerful Vanara who is like elephant among Vanaras, was proceeding swiftly along, the ocean below looked instantly like a valley between two mountains ( by the force of the winds generated by his flight).

hanumān mēghajālāni prakarṣan mārutō yathā|
pāṇḍurāruṇa varṇāni nīla māñjiṣṭakāni ca ca||81||
kapinā''kr̥ṣyamāṇāni mahābhrāṇi cakāśirē |

sa|| hanumān mārutō yathā mēghajālāni prakarṣan pakṣi saṁghānām āpātē vrajan pakṣirāja iva|| (??) kapinā akr̥ṣyamāṇāni pāṇḍurāruṇa varṇāni nīlamāṁjiṣṭhakāni mahābhrāṇi cakāśirē||

Hanuman like the wind pulling along clouds with him looked like the king of birds attracting flocks of birds while landing. The Vanara while drawing large clouds of white or red blue or yellow looked charming.

ślō|| praviśannabhrajālāni niṣpataṁśca punaḥ punaḥ||82||
pracchannaśca prakāśaśca candramā iva lakṣyatē|
plavamānaṁ tu taṁ dr̥ṣṭvā plavaṅgaṁ tvaritaṁ tadā ||83||
vavarṣuḥ puṣpavarṣāṇi dēva gandharva dānavāḥ |

sa|| abhrajālāni punaḥ punaḥ praviśan niṣpataṁśca pracchannaścaprakāśaśca candramāiva lakṣyatē||tadā tvaritaṁ plavamānaṁ taṁ plavaṁgaṁ dr̥ṣṭvā dēvagandharva dānavāḥ puṣpavarṣāṇi vavarṣuḥ||

Entering and leaving strings of clouds, he looked like the moon that appears and disappears. Then seeing Hanuman crossing the ocean quickly the Devas. Gandharvas, Danavas showered flowers on him.

ślō|| tatāpa na hi taṁ sūryaṁ plavaṁtaṁ vānarōttamam||84||
siṣēvē ca tadā vāyū rāmakāryartha siddhayē|
r̥ṣayaḥ tuṣṭuvuścainaṁ plavamānaṁ vihāyasā ||85||
jaguśca dēva gandharvāḥ praśaṁsaṁtō mahōjasam |

sa||tadā rāmakāryārthaṁ plavaṁtaṁ taṁ vānarōttamaṁ sūryaḥ na tatāpa vāyuḥ ca śiṣēvē || vihāyasā plavamānaṁ mahaujasaṁ r̥ṣayaḥ ēnaṁ tuṣṭuvuḥ ca dēva gandharvāḥ praśaṁsaṁtō jaguḥ ca||

The Vanara coursing through the skies to achieve the purpose of Rama , is not troubled by the Sun's heat and even the wind served his purpose. The flying Hanuman was extolled by sages and the delighted Devas and Gandharvas praised him and sang too.

ślō|| nāgāśca tuṣṭuvu ryakṣā rakṣāṁsi vibudhāḥ khagāḥ||86||
prēkṣya sarvē kapivaraṁ sahasā vigata klamam|
tasmin plavaga śārdūlē plavamānē hanūmati||87||
ikṣvākukula mānārthī cintayāmāsa sāgaraḥ|

sa|| vigataklamam kapivaram prēkṣya sahasā sarvē nāgāḥ yakṣāḥ rakṣāṁsi vibudhāḥ khagāḥ ca tuṣṭuvuḥ||plavagaśārdūlē tasmin hanūmati plavamānē sāgaraḥ ikṣvākukulamānārthī cintayāmāsa||

Seeing the untiring Hanuman the all the Nagas Yakshas, Rakshasas , learned ones, as well as all other birds praised him. While the tiger among Vanaras was flying across the ocean , the ocean who wishes well for the Ikshavakus started thinking.

ślō|| sāhāyyaṁ vānarēṁdrasya yadi nāhaṁ hanūmataḥ||88||
kariṣyāmi bhaviṣyāmi sarva vācyō vivakṣatām|
ahamikṣvāku nāthēna sagarēṇa vivarthitaḥ||89||
ikṣvāku sacivaścāyaṁ nāvasīditu marhati |
tathā mayā vidhātavyaṁ viśramēta yathā kapiḥ||90||
śēṣaṁ ca mayi viśrāṁta ssukhēnāti patiṣyati |

sa|| yadi ahaṁ vānarēndrasya hanūmataḥ sahāyyaṁ na kariṣyāmi (tadi) vivakṣatām sarvavācyaḥ bhaviṣyāmi||ahaṁ ikṣvākunāthēna sagarēṇa vivardhitaḥ | ayaṁ ikṣvāku sacivaḥ ca avasīdituṁ na arhati||yathā kapiḥ viśramēta tathā mayā vidhātavyam| mayi viśrāntaḥ sukhēna atipatiṣyati||

If I do not help the leader of the Vanaras , all the wise ones will forever blame me. I have been nurtured by Sagara, the Ikshwaku king. This Vanara being a minister of Ikshwakus, it is my duty to help him. I should help so that he can get rest. Resting on me he will leap over easily.

iti kr̥tvā matiṁ sādhvīṁ samudraścannamaṁbhasi ||91||
hiraṇya nābhaṁ mainākaṁ uvāca girisattamam |
tvamihāsurasaṁghānāṁ pātāḷatalavāsinām ||92||
dēvarājñā giriśrēṣṭha parighassannivēśitaḥ |

sa|| samudraḥ iti sādhvīṁ matiṁ kr̥tvā aṁbhasi cchannaṁ hiraṇyanābhaṁ girisattamam mainākaṁ uvāca||giriśrēṣṭha tvaṁ iha pātāḷatalavāsināṁ asura saṁghānām parighaḥ iva dēvarājñā sannivēśitaḥ||

The Sagara having made up his mind , spoke to the best of mountains hidden in the waters. ' Oh Best of mountains ! You are here as a barrier for the legions of Asura groups who are the residents of the nether world.'

ślō|| tva mēṣāṁ jāta vīryāṇāṁ punarēvōtpatiṣyatām ||93||
pātāḷa syāpramēyasya dvāramāvr̥tya tiṣṭhasi |
tiryag ūrdhvaṁ adhaścaiva śaktiḥ tē śailavarthitum||94||
tasmāt saṁcōdayāmi tvāṁ uttiṣṭha girisattama|

sa||jāta vīryāṇāṁ ēṣām punarēva utpatiṣyatāṁ tvaṁ apramēyasya pātāḷasya dvāraṁ āvr̥tya tiṣṭhasi||śaila tē tiryak ūrdhvaṁ adhaścaiva vardhituṁ śaktiḥ (asti) | tasmāt girisattama tvāṁ saṁcōdayāmi uttiṣṭha ||

' You are staying at the entrance preventing these powerful demons from coming up again. Oh Mountain you have the power to grow upwards or downwards or across. Hence Oh best of mountains !, I am asking you to rise'.

ślō|| sa ēṣa kapiśārdūlaḥ tvāmuparyēti vīryavān ||95||
hanumān rāmakāryārthaṁ bhīmakarmā khamāplutaḥ|
asya sāhyaṁ mayā kāryaṁ ikṣvākukulavartinaḥ||96||
mama hīkṣvākavaḥ pūjyāḥ paraṁ pūjyatamāstava |

sa|| kapiśārdūlaḥ vīryavān bhīmakarmā sa ēṣaḥ hanumān rāmakāryārthaṁ tvāṁ upari ēti kham āplutaḥ ||ikṣvākukulavartinaḥ asya sāhyaṁ mayā kāryaṁ | ikṣvākavaḥ mamapūjyāḥ hi | tava pūjyatamāḥ||

' This Hanuman , a mighty Vanara, tiger among Vanaras , performer of dreadful actions, is flying over you in the skies for accomplishing Rama's tasks. Helping this one who serves the Ikshvaku line is my duty. The Ikshavakus are worthy of adoration. To you also ( they are ) most adorable'.

ślō|| kurusācivya masmākaṁ na naḥ kārya matikramēt ||97||
kartavyaṁ akr̥taṁ kāryaṁ satāṁ manyumudīrayēt |
salilāt ūrdhvaṁ uttiṣṭha tiṣṭhatvēṣa kapistvayi ||98||
asmākaṁ atithiścaiva pūjyaśca plavatāṁ varaḥ|

sa|| asmākaṁ sācivyaṁ kuru | naḥ kāryaṁ kartavyaṁ na atikramēt| akr̥taṁ kāryaṁ satām manyum udīrayēt||salilāt ūrdhvaṁ uttiṣṭha | asmākam atithiścaiva plavatām varaḥ pūjyaśca| ēṣaḥ kapiḥ tvayi tiṣṭhantu||

' Help their cause as a minister. Our duty to do worthy action shall not be lost. An unfinished task will make good people to lose their cool. Come up from the waters. This best of fliers is our guest and worthy of worship. This Vanara may rest on you'.

ślō|| cāmīkara mahānābha dēva gandharva sēvita||99||
hanumāṁstvayi viśrāṁtaḥ tataḥ śēṣaṁ gamiṣyati |
sa ēṣa kapiśārdūla stvāmuparyēti vīryavān ||
kākutsthasyānr̥śaṁsyaṁ ca maithilyāśca vivāsanam||100||
śramaṁ ca plavagēndrasya samīkṣōtthātumarhasi |

sa|| cāmīkara mahānābha (tvaṁ) dēvagandharva sēvitaḥ | hanumān tvayi viśrāntaḥ tataḥ śēṣaṁ gamiṣyati||kākutsthasya anr̥śaṁsyaṁ ca maithilyāḥ vivāsanaṁ ca plavagēndrasya śramaṁ ca samīkṣya utthātuṁ arhasi||

' Oh Golden peaked one ! You having been visited upon by Devas and Gandharvas. Hanuman may rest on you and then proceed to cover the rest (of the ocean). Considering the noble nature of Ikshavakus, the kidnapping of Mithila's daughter, Hanuman's efforts, you ought to rise up'.

ślō|| hiraṇyanābhō mainākō niśamya lavaṇāmbhasaḥ ||101||
utpapāta jalāttūrṇaṁ mahādruma latā yutaḥ|
sasāgarajalaṁ bhitvā babhūvābhyutthitaḥ tadā ||102||
yathā jaladharaṁ bhitvā dīptaraśmirdivākaraḥ |

sa|| hiraṇyanābhaḥ mahādrumalatāyutaḥ lavaṇāṁbhasaḥ mainākaḥ (ētat) niśamya jalāt tūrṇam utpapāta||tadā saḥ sāgara jalaṁ bhitvā yathā dīptaraśmiḥ divākaraḥ jaladharaṁ bhitvā (iva) abhyuddhitaḥ babhūva||

The golden peaked mountain, full of great trees, hidden in the salty waters, having heard this immediately came up from the waters. Then the mountain rose up from the waters like the Sun comes up through water laden clouds.

ślō|| sa mahātma muhūrtēna parvataḥ salilāvr̥taḥ ||103||
darśayāmāsa śr̥ṅgāṇi sāgarēṇa niyōjitaḥ |
ādityōdiya saṅkāśairālikhidbhirivāṁbaram|
śātakumbhamayaiḥ śr̥ṅgaiḥ sakinnaramahōragaiḥ ||104||

sa|| muhūrtēna sāgarēṇa niyōjitaḥ salilāvr̥taḥ saḥ mahātma parvataḥ śr̥ṁgāṇi darśayāmāsa||saḥ kinnaramahōragaiḥ adityōdaya saṅkāśaiḥ śātakuṁbhamayaiḥ śr̥ṁgaiḥ ambaraṁ ālikhadbhiḥ (darśayāmāsa)||

Deployed in the waters in a moment, Hanuman the great soul saw the mountain peaks. He saw the mountain with Nagas and Kinnaras, with golden peaks which are as if scraping the sky, resembling the rising Sun,

ślō|| taptajāmbūnadaiḥ śr̥ṅgaiḥ parvatasya samutthitaiḥ ||105||
ākāśaṁ śastra saṁkāśaṁ abhavatkāṁcanaprabham|
jātarūpamayaiḥ śr̥ṅgaiḥ bhrājamānaiḥ svayaṁ prabhaiḥ ||106||
āditya śata saṅkāśaḥ sō 'bhavat girisattamaḥ|

sa|| parvatasya samutthitaiḥ śr̥ṅgaiḥ taptajāmbūnadaiḥ ākāśam śastra saṁkāśaṁ kāṁcana prabhaṁ abhavat|| svayaṁprabhaiḥ bhrājamānaiḥ jātarūpamayaiḥ śr̥ṅgaiḥ saḥ girisattamaḥ śata āditya saṁkāśaḥ abhavat||

With the mountains peaks of burnished gold the sky assumed the burnished gold color of weapons. The self-effulgent glittering golden peaks , that best of mountains shone like thousand Suns.

ślō|| tamutthita masaṅgēna hanumānagratasthitam ||107||
madhyē lavaṇatōyasya vighnō'yamiti niścitaḥ|
sa tamucchrita matyarthaṁ mahāvēgō mahākapiḥ ||108||
urasā pātayāmāsa jīmūta miva mārutaḥ

sa|| lavaṇatōyasya madhyē asaṁgēṇa utthitaṁ agraḥ sthitaṁ taṁ ayaṁ vighnaḥ iti niścitaḥ ( tataḥ kiṁkurvan?)||saḥ kapiḥ mahāvēgaḥ atyartham ucchritaṁ taṁ urasā mārutaḥ jīmūtamiva pātayāmāsa||

Hanuman thought that the one standing in front of him which rose up from the water of the sea , surely as an obstruction. The speedy Vanara, pushed that instantly risen up one with his chest like wind pushes the clouds away.

ślō|| sa tathā pātitaḥ tēna kapinā parvatōttamaḥ||109||
buddhvā tasya kapērvēgaṁ jaharṣa ca nanaṁda ca |
ta mākāśagataṁ vīraṁ ākāśē samupasthitaḥ ||110||
prītō hr̥ṣṭhamanā vākyaṁ abravīt parvataḥ kapim|
mānuṣaṁ dhārayan rūpaṁ ātmanaḥ śikharē sthitaḥ||111||

sa||tēna kapinā tathā pātitaḥ sa parvatōttamaḥ tasya kapēḥ vēgaṁ buddhvā jaharṣa ca nanaṁda ca||parvataḥ prītaḥ hr̥ṣṭamānaḥ mānuṣaṁ rūpaṁ dhārayan ātmanaḥ śikharē samupasthitaḥ ākāśē ākāśagataṁ taṁ vīraṁ kapiṁvākyaṁ abravīt||

Thus pushed down by the Vanara , the best of mountains having realized the Vanaras speed, felt happy and roared too. The mountain , delighted, happily assuming the form of a human, standing on his peaks, spoke to the mighty Vanara flying in the sky.

ślō|| duṣkaraṁ kr̥tavānkarma tvamidaṁ vānarōttamaḥ|
nipatya mama śr̥ṅgēṣu viśramasva yathāsukhaṁ||112||
rāghavasya kulē jātē rudadhiḥ parivartitaḥ |
sa tvāṁ rāmahitē yuktaṁ pratyarcayati sāgaraḥ ||113||

sa|| vānarōttamaḥ tvaṁ duṣkaraṁ karma kr̥tavān | mamaśr̥ṅgēṣu nipatya viśramasva yathāsukham|| udadhiḥ rāghavasya kulē jātaiḥ parivarthitaḥ | saḥ sāgaraḥ rāmahitē yuktaṁ tvāṁ pratyayarcati||

'Oh Best of Vanaras ! You are doing an very difficult task. Rest among my peaks and go as you please. This ocean is nurtured by those born in Raghava's line. That Sagara, wanting to act in the interests of Rama, wants to honor you in turn'.

ślō|| kr̥tē ca pratikartavyaṁ ēṣa dharmaḥ sanātanaḥ|
sō'yaṁ tvatpratīkārārthī tvattassammāna marhati ||114||
tvannimittamanēnāhaṁ bahumānāt pracōditaḥ|
tiṣṭhatvaṁ kapiśārdūla mayi viśramya gamyatām||115||

sa|| kr̥tē prati kartavyaṁ(iti) ēṣaḥ sanātanaḥ dharmaḥ| tat pratikārārthī saḥ ( sāgaraḥ) ayaṁ tvattaḥ sammānaṁ arhati|| anēna ( sāgarēṇa) tvat nimittaṁ bahumānāt ahaṁ pracōditaḥ | kapiśārdūla tvaṁ tiṣṭha | mayi (śr̥ṁgēṣu) viśramya gamyatām||

' That help rendered is to be repaid is an age old custom. To perform that service in return, the Sagara wants to honor you. For your benefit I have been prompted ( by Sagara). Oh tiger among Vanaras ! Please stay. Resting on my peaks you may go'.

ślō|| yōjanānāṁ śataṁ cāpi kapirēṣa samāplutaḥ |
tava sānuṣu viśrāṁtaḥ śēṣaṁ prakramatāṁ iti||116||
tadidaṁ gandhavat svādu kandamūlaphalam bahu|
tadāsvādya hariśrēṣṭha viśrāntō'nugamiṣyasi ||117||

sa|| śataṁ yōjanānāṁ samāplutaḥ ēṣa kapiḥ tava sānuṣu viśrāntaḥ prakramatām iti (sāgarēṇa pracōditaḥ)||hariśrēṣṭha tat idaṁ gaṁdhavat svādu bahu kaṁdamūlaṁ āsādya viśrāntaḥ anugamiṣyasi ||

The Sagara prompted me thinking ' leaping over Hundred Yojanas this Vanara may then proceed after resting in your peaks. Oh best of Vanaras, tasting these sweet smelling fruits and roots and resting you may proceed."

ślō|| asmākamapi saṁbaṁdhaḥ kapimukhya tvayā'stivai |
prakhyātaḥ triṣu lōkēṣu mahāguṇa parigrahaḥ ||118||
vēgavantaḥ plavantō yē plavagāmārutātmajaḥ|
tēṣāṁ mukhyatamaḥ manyē tvāmahaṁ kapikuṁjara||119||

sa|| kapimukhya triṣu lōkēṣu prakhyātaḥ mahāguṇaparigrahaḥ saṁbaṁdhaḥ tvayā asmākamapi astivai||mārutātmaja kapikuṁjaraḥ vēgavantaḥ plavantaḥ yē plavagāḥ tēṣām mukhyatamaṁ tvām ahaṁ manyē||

' Oh chief of Vanaras ! For us also there is a kinship based on merits which is well known in the three worlds. Oh Son of wind god ! Elephant among Vanaras , I consider you as the foremost among those who fly very fast'.

ślō|| atithiḥ kila pūjārhaḥ prākr̥tō'pi vijānata|
dharmaṁ jijñāsamānēna kiṁ punastvādr̥śō mahān ||120||
tvaṁ hi dēva variṣṭhasya mārutasya mahātmanaḥ|
putraḥ tasyaiva vēgēna sadr̥śaḥ kapi kuñjaraḥ||121||

sa|| dharmaṁ jijñāsamānēna vijānatā prākr̥taḥ api atithiḥ pūjārhaḥ | tvādr̥śaḥ mahān kiṁ punaḥ kila|| kapikuṁjara tvaṁ dēvavariṣṭhasya mahātmanaḥ mārutasya putraḥ hi | vēgēna tasyaiva sādr̥śaḥ||

' By the wise men who desire to know righteousness, a guest even if he is an ordinary person, is worthy of worship. That being so what to say of great ones. Oh Elephant among Vanaras ! You are preeminent among divine beings. You are son of wind-god. In speed you are equal to him.

ślō|| pūjitē tvayi dharmajña pūjāṁ prāpnōti mārutaḥ|
tasmāt tvaṁ pūjanīyō mē śr̥ṇucāpyatra kāraṇam||122||
pūrvaṁ kr̥ta yugē tāta parvatāḥ pakṣiṇō'bhavan|
tē hi jagmurdiśassarvā garuḍānila vēginaḥ||123||

sa||dharmajña tvayi pūjitē mārutaḥ pūjāṁ prāpnōti | tasmāt tvaṁ api mē pūjanīyaḥ | atrakāraṇaṁ ca śr̥ṇu||tāta ! pūrvaṁ kr̥tayugē parvatāḥ pakṣiṇaḥ abhavan | tē garuḍānilavēgaḥ sarvāḥ diśāḥ jagmuḥ||

'Oh Knower of righteousness! if you are worshipped , the wind god receives the veneration. So you are also worthy of worship for me. Let me tell you the reason. Dear son ! Long time ago in Krita Yuga the mountains were having wings. They were moving the speed of Garuda in all directions'.

ślō|| tatastēṣu prayātēṣu dēvasaṁghāssaharṣibhiḥ |
bhūtāni ca bhayaṁ jagmuḥ tēṣāṁ patanaśaṅkayā ||124||
tataḥ kruddhaḥ sahasrākṣaḥ parvatānāṁ śatakratuḥ|
pakṣān cichcēda vajrēṇa tatra tatra sahasraśaḥ||125||

sa||tataḥ tēṣu prayātēṣu saharṣibhiḥ dēva saṁghāḥ bhūtāni ca tēṣāṁ patana śaṁkayā bhayaṁ jagmuḥ|| tataḥ kruddhaḥ śatakratuḥ sahasrākṣaḥ tatra tatra sahaśrasaḥ parvatānāṁ pakṣān cichcēda||

' Then as they went about the legions of gods along with venerable sages and other beings panicked for fear of their falling down. Then the angry thousand eyed one who performed hundred sacrifices, cut off the wings of the mountains'.

ślō|| samāmupāgataḥ kruddhō vajramudyama dēvarāṭ|
tatō'haṁ sahasā kṣipta śvasanēna mahātmanā||126||
asmin lavaṇatōyē ca prakṣiptaḥ plavagōttamaḥ|
guptapakṣa samagraśca tavapitrā'bhi rakṣitaḥ||127||

sa|| saḥ dēvarāṭ kruddhaḥ vajraṁ udyamya mām upāgataḥ| tataḥ ahaṁ mahātmanā śvasanēna sahasā kṣiptaḥ|| plavagōttama guptapakṣasamagraśca asmin lavaṇatōyē prakṣiptaḥ tavapitrā abhirakṣitaḥ||

'The angry king of Devas, holding the Vajra approached me. Then I have been dropped down by the great wind god. Oh best of Vanaras! Thrown down by your father I have been protected with my wings intact'.

ślō|| tatō'haṁ mānayāmi tvāṁ mānyōhi mama mārutaḥ |
tvayā mē hyēṣa saṁbandhaḥ kapimukhya mahāguṇaḥ||128||
asminnēvaṁ gatē kāryē sāgarasya mamaiva ca|
prītiṁ prītamanāḥ kartuṁ tvamarhasi mahākapē ||129||
śramaṁ mōkṣaya pūjāṁ ca gr̥hāṇa kapisattama |
prītiṁ ca bahu manyasva prītō'smi tava darśanāt ||130||

sa|| kapimukhya tataḥ mārutaḥ mama mānyaḥ hi | tataḥ ahaṁ mānayāmi | mē tvayā saṁbaṁdhaḥ mahāguṇaḥ || mahākapiḥ asmin kāryē ēvaṁ gatē tvaṁ prītamanāḥ sāgarasyaca mamaiva ca prītiṁ kartuṁ arhasi||kapisattama śramaṁ mōkṣya pūjāṁ ca gr̥hāṇa prītiṁ bahumanyasva| tava darśanāt prītaḥ asmi||

'Oh chief of Vanaras ! So the wind god is worthy of worship for me. So I am worshipping you. My relationship with you is great. Oh great Vanara ! Being deployed in this action, you deserve to please us, the Sagara and myself. Oh best of Vanaras ! Relieving your fatigue, receiving our worship accepting our love, you may oblige us. I am delighted in seeing you'

ślō|| ēvamuktaḥ kapiśrēṣṭhaḥ taṁ nagōttamam abravīt |
prītō'smi kr̥tāmātithyaṁ manyurēṣō'panīyatām||131||

sa|| ēvaṁ uktaḥ kapiśrēṣṭhaḥ taṁ nagōttamaṁ abravīt | prītaḥ asmi| ātithyaṁ kr̥taṁ| ēṣaḥ manyuḥ apanīyatām||

Having been told thus by Vanara, the best of Vanaras then spoke. 'I am delighted. Take it as though your hospitality has been accepted. Remove your unhappiness'.

ślō|| tvaratē kāryakālōmē ahaścāpyativartatē |
pratijñā ca mayādattā na sthātavya mihāntarē ||132||
ityuktvā pāṇinā śailaṁ ālabhya haripuṁgavaḥ|
jagāmākāśamāviśya vīryavān prahasanniva ||133||

sa|| mē kāryakālaḥ tvaratē | ahaḥ ca ativartatē | antarē iha na sthātavyaṁ (iti) mayā pratijñā dattāca||vīryavān haripuṁgavaḥ iti uktvā śailaṁ pāṇīnā ālabhya ākāśam āviśya prahasanniva jagāma||

My time limit is approaching. The day is also coming to its end. Taken a vow not to stop in the middle. The mighty Hanuman having said this touching the mountain with his hand, entering the sky moved on with a smile .

ślō|| sa parvata samudrābhyāṁ bahumānādavēkṣitaḥ |
pūjitaścōpapanābhiḥ āśīrbhiḥ anilātmajaḥ ||134||
athōrthvaṁ dūramutpatya hitvā śailamahārṇavau |
pituḥ panthāna māsthāya jagāma vimalē'mbarē||135||

sa|| saḥ anilātmajaḥ parvata samudrābhyāṁ bahumānāt āvēkṣitaḥ upapannābhiḥ āśīrbhiḥ pūjitaḥ ca||atha śailamahārṇavau hitvā ( hanūmataḥ) ūrdhvaṁ dūraṁ utpatya vimalē ambarē pituḥ panthānaṁ asthāya jagāma||

The son of wind god was adored by the mountain , and was honored with proper blessings. Then leaving the mountain and the great ocean , Hanuman jumped up into the clear sky taking the path of his father, and flew away.

ślō|| bhūyaścōrdhvagatiṁ prāpya giriṁ taṁ avalōkayan |
vāyusūnunirālambē jagāma vimalē'mbarē||136||
tadvitīyaṁ hanumatō dr̥ṣṭvā karmasuduṣkaram|
praśaśaṁsu ssurāssarvē siddhāśca paramarṣayaḥ||137||

sa|| vāyusūnuḥ bhūyaśca ūrdhvaṁ gatiṁ prāpya taṁ giriṁ avalōkayan nirālambē vimalaē ambarē jagāma||hanumataḥ tat dvitīyaṁ suduṣkaraṁ karma dr̥ṣṭvā sarvē surāḥ siddhāśca paramarṣayaḥ praśaṁsuḥ||

The son of wind god again attaining higher path , looking at the mountain went in to the sky without any support. Seeing the accomplishment of the second such difficult to perform task being performed by Hanuman , the Suras , Siddhas and the venerable sages praised him.

ślō|| dēvatāścābhavan hr̥ṣṭāḥ tatrasthāstasya karmaṇā|
kāñcanasya sunābhasya sahasrākṣaśca vāsavaḥ||138||
uvāca vacanaṁ dhīmān paritōṣāt sagadgadam|
sunābhaṁ parvata śrēṣṭhaṁ svayamēva śacīpatiḥ ||139||

sa|| tatrasthāḥ dēvatāśca sahasrākṣaḥ vāsavasca kāṁcanasya tasya sunābhasya karmaṇā hr̥ṣṭhāḥ abhavan ||dhīmān śacīpatiḥ parvataśrēṣṭhaṁ sunābhaṁ paritōṣāt sagadgadam svayamēva vacanam uvāca||

The Devas who were present there as well as the thousand eyed Vasava too were delighted by the gesture of the golden Mainaka mountain. Indra, the wise husband of Sachi satisfied spoke to Sunabha, the best of mountains , with a choked voice of happiness.

ślō|| hiraṇyanābha śailēndra parituṣṭō'smi tē bhr̥śam|
abhayaṁ tē prayacchāmi tiṣṭha saumya yathā sukham||140||
sāhyaṁ kr̥taṁ tē sumahadvikrāntasya hanūmataḥ|
kramatō yōjanaśataṁ nirbhayasya bhayē sati||141||

sa|| hiraṇyanābha śailēṁdra tē bhr̥śam parituṣṭhaḥ asmi | saumya tē abhayaṁ prayacchāmi| yathāsukhaṁ tiṣṭha||śatayōjanam kramataḥ bhayē sati nirbhayasya vikrāntasya tē hanumataḥ sumahat sāhyaṁ kr̥taṁ||

'Oh Hiranyagarbha ! the best of mountains, I am very happy with you. Oh Pious one! I am giving you my protection. You rest as you please. While leaping a hundred Yojanas , though there is reason to fear, the fearless Hanuman is unafraid and great deed was done'.

ślō|| rāmasyaiṣa hi dūtyēna yāti dāśarathērhariḥ |
sat kriyāṁ kurvatā tasya tōṣitō'smi dr̥ḍhaṁ tvayā||142||
tataḥ praharṣamagama dvipulaṁ parvatōttamaḥ |
dēvatānāṁ patiṁ dr̥ṣṭvā parituṣṭhaṁ śatakratum||143||
savai dattavaraśailō babhūvāsthitaḥ tadā |
hanumāṁśca muhurtēna vyaticakrāma sāgaram||144||

sa|| ēṣa hariḥ dāśarathēḥ rāmasya pitāyaiva yāti tasyatvayā kurvatā sat kriyām dr̥ḍhaḥ tōṣitaḥ asmi||tataḥ parvatōttamaḥ dēvatānāṁ patiṁ śatakratuṁ parituṣṭhaṁ dr̥ṣṭvā vipulaṁ praharṣaṁ āgamat||tadā dattavaraḥ saḥ śailaḥ asthitaḥ babhūva| hanumāṁśca muhūrtēna sāgaraṁ vyaticakrāma||

'This Vanara is working for Rama's well-being only. I am very happy with the service offered to him'. Then the best of mountains seeing the happiness of the king of Devas, Indra experienced a delight. Then the Mountain having been given a boon became stable. Hanuman also moved on across the ocean."

ślō|| tatō dēvāḥ sagandharvāḥ siddhāśca paramarṣayaḥ|
abruvan sūryasaṅkāśāṁ surasāṁ nāgamātaram||145||
ayaṁ vātātmaja śśrīmān plavatē sāgarōpari|
hanumānnāma tasya tvaṁ muhūrtaṁ vighnamācara||146||

sa|| tataḥ dēvāḥ gaṁdharvāḥ saha siddhāḥ paramarṣyayaḥ ca sūryasaṁkāśaṁ nāgamātaraṁ surasāṁ abruvan ||ayaṁ śrīmān hanumān nāma vātātmajaḥ sāgarōpari plavatē | tasya tvaṁ muhūrtaṁ vighnaṁ ācara ||

Then the Devas, Gandharvas along with Siddhas and great ascetics spoke to Surasa the mother of serpents who is shining like the Sun. ' This illustrious son of wind god, named Hanuman is flying across the ocean. You provide him an obstruction for a moment'.

ślō|| rākṣasaṁ rūpamāsthāya sughōraṁ parvatōpamam|
daṁṣṭrā karāḷaṁ piṅgākṣaṁ vaktraṁ kr̥tvā nabhassamam||147||
balamiccāmahē jñātuṁ bhūyaścāsya parākramam|
tvāṁ vijēṣyat upāyēna viṣādaṁ vā gamiṣyati ||148||

sa|| sughōraṁ parvata upamam rākṣasa rūpaṁ āsthāya daṁṣtrākarāḷaṁ piṁgākṣaṁ vaktraṁ nabhaḥ samaṁ kr̥tvā ( vighnaṁ ācara) || asya balaṁ bhūyaḥ parākramaḥ ca jñātuṁ icchāmahē | upāyēna tvāṁ vijēṣyati vā viṣādaṁ gamiṣyati (jñātuṁ icchāmahē)||

' Assume a hideous form of a demon, gigantic like a mountain , with big teeth, yellow brown eyes, with opening mouth like a sky. We want to know again his strength and prowess. Whether he will win with intelligence or faces sorrow'.

ślō|| ēvamuktā tu sā dēvī daivatairabhisatkr̥tā |
samudra madhyē surasā bhibhratī rākṣasaṁ vapuḥ||149||
vikr̥taṁ ca virūpaṁ ca sarvasya ca bhayāvaham|
plavamānaṁ hanūmantaṁ āvr̥tyēdamuvācaha||150||

sa|| ēvaṁ daivataiḥ abhisatkr̥tā uktā tu sā dēvī samudra madhyē rākṣasaṁ vapuḥ bhibhratī || (tadā) plavamānaṁ hanūmantaṁ āvr̥tya (tat) sarvasya ca bhayāvahaṁ vikr̥taṁ ca virūpaṁ idaṁ āha||

Thus having been told by Devas and receiving their honors , that lady demon presented herself in the middle of the ocean. Then the ugly and terrifying form surrounding Hanuman who was flying and said the following.

ślō|| mamabhakṣaḥ pradiṣṭastvaṁ īśvarairvānararṣabha |
ahaṁ tvāṁ bhakṣayiṣyāmi praviśēdaṁ mamānanam||151||
ēvamuktaḥ surasayā prāṅjalirvānararṣabha|
prahr̥ṣṭavadanaḥ śrīmān idaṁ vacanamabravīt ||152||

sa|| (hē) vānararṣabha īśvaraiḥ tvaṁ mamabhakṣaḥ pradiṣṭaḥ | ahaṁ tvāṁ bhakṣayiṣyāmi | idaṁ mama ānanam praviśa || surasayā ēvaṁ uktaḥ vānararṣabhaḥ prahr̥ṣṭavadanaḥ prāṅjaliḥ śrīmān idaṁ vacanaṁ abravīt||

Oh Bull among Vanaras ! The Lord has sent you as my food. I will eat you. Enter my mouth. Having been told by thus by Surasa , with a happy and willing countenance the illustrious one said the following words.

ślō|| rāmōdāśarathirnāma praviṣṭō daṇḍakāvanam|
lakṣmaṇēna saha bhrātā vaidēhyācāpi bhāryayā||153||
anyakāryaviṣaktasya baddhavairasya rākṣasaiḥ |
tasya sītā hr̥tā bhāryā rāvaṇēna yaśasvinī||154||

sa|| rāmaḥ nāma dāśarathiḥ bhrātā lakṣmaṇēna saha bhāryayā vaidēhyā cāpi daṇḍakāvanam praviṣṭhaḥ ||rākṣasaiḥ baddhavairasya tasya anyakāryaviṣaktasya bhāryā yaśasvinī sītā rāvaṇēna apahr̥tā||

'The son of Dasaratha by name Rama, along with his brother Lakshmana and his wife Sita entered the Dandaka forest. While Rama was engaged otherwise by Rakshasas with deep rooted enmity, his wife Sita , a glorious lady has been abducted by Ravana'.

ślō|| tasyāḥ sakāśaṁ dūtō'haṁ gamiṣyē rāma śāsanāt |
kartumarhasi rāmasya sāhyaṁ viṣayavāsini||155||
athavā maithilīṁ dr̥ṣṭvā rāmaṁ cākliṣṭhakāriṇam|
āgamiṣyāmi tē vaktraṁ satyaṁ pratiśruṇōmi tē||156||

sa|| ahaṁ dūtaḥ tasyāḥ (sītāyāḥ) sakāśam rāmaśāsanāt gamiṣyē | (hē) viṣayavāsini rāmasya sāhyaṁ kartuṁ arhasi||athavā maithilīṁ dr̥ṣṭvāakliṣṭakāriṇaṁ rāmaṁ ca tē vaktraṁ āgamiṣyāmi | satyaṁ tē pratiśruṇōmi ||

' I am his messenger going on his command. Oh Resident of his kingdom ! It is proper for you to help Rama. Or else after seeing Mythili and Rama who makes difficult things look easy I will come back to your mouth. I am telling you the truth'.

ślō|| ēvamuktā hanumatā surasā kāmarūpiṇī|
abravīnnātivartēnmāṁ kaścidēṣavarō mama||157||
taṁ prayāntaṁ samudvīkṣya surasā vākya mabravīt|
balaṁ jijñāsamānā vai nāgamātā hanūmataḥ||157-1||

sa|| hanumatā ēvaṁ uktā kāmarūpiṇi surasā abravīt kaścit nātivartēta ēṣaḥ mama varaḥ ||nāgamātā surasā hanūmataḥ balaṁ jijñāsamānā vai nāgamātā surasā prayāntaṁ taṁ samudvīkṣya (idam) vākyaṁ abravīt ||

Having been told thus by Hanuman, Surasa said none can cross me. That is my boon. The mother of serpents Surasa desirous of knowing Hanuman's strength , addressed these words to Hanuman who was attempting to go away.

ślō|| praviśya vadanaṁ mē'dya gantavyam vānarōttama|
vara ēṣā purā dattō mamadhātrēti satvarā||157-2||
vyādāya vipulaṁ vaktraṁ sthitā sā mārutēḥ puraḥ|
ēvamuktaḥ surasayā kruddhō vānarapuṅgavaḥ||157-3||

sa|| vānarōttama adya mē vadanaṁ satvarā praviśya gaṁtavyam | ēṣaḥ varaḥ purā mē dhātrē dattaḥ iti||sā vipulaṁ vaktraṁ vyādāya mārutēḥ puraḥ sthitaḥ| surasayā ēvaṁ uktaḥ vānaraḥ kruddhaḥ (abhavat)||

'Oh Best of Vanaras today enter my mouth quickly and then you may go. Such is my boon given to me by Brahma , the creator'. She opened her mouth wide and stood in front of Maruti. Having been told thus by Surasa the Vanara became angry.

ślō|| abravītkuruvai vaktraṁ yēna māṁ viṣahiṣyasē|
ityuktvā surasā kruddhā daśayōjanamāyatā ||157-4||
daśayōjanavistārō babhūva hanumāṁstadā |
taṁ dr̥ṣṭvā mēghasaṅkāśaṁ daśayōjanamāyatam||157-5||
cakāra surasā cāsyaṁ viṁśadyōjana māyatam|

sa|| (saḥ vānaraḥ) vai vaktraṁ yēna mām viṣahiṣyasē (tat) kuru (iti) abravīt|| iti uktvā kruddhā hanumān daśayōjanam āyatā daśayōjana vistāraḥ babhūva || mēghasaṁkāśaṁ daśayōjanamāyataṁ taṁ dr̥ṣṭvā surasā ca āsyaṁ viṁśadyōjanaṁ āyatam cakāra ||

The Vanara said open the mouth that which can bear me . So saying, the angry Hanuman grew ten Yojanas wide and ten Yojanas long. Seeing the ten Yojanas wide Hanuman looking like a cloud, Surasa too stretched her mouth wide by twenty Yojanas.

sa|| tataḥ hanumāṁstu ( hanumān api) kruddhaḥ triṁśadyōjanaṁ āyataḥ(abhavat)| surasā tathāvaktraṁ catvāriṁśaṁ ucchritam cakāra||hanumān vīraḥ paṁcāsadyōjana ucchritaḥ babhūva | (tadā) surasā vaktraṁ ṣaṣṭiyōjanaṁ āyataṁ cakāra||tathaiva vīraḥ hanumān tathaiva saptatī yōjanam ucchritaḥ| surasā vaktraṁ aśītī yōjanaṁ āyatam||acalaprakhyō hanumān navatī yōjanaṁ uchchritaḥ| (tadā) surasā vaktraṁ śatayōjanaṁ āyatam||

The Hanuman also being angry stretched his body to thirty Yojanas. Surasa then stretched her mouth to forty Yojanas. Then the hero Hanuman became fifty Yojana high. Then Surasa became sixty Yojanas wide. In the same way Hanuman grew to seventy Yojanas. Surasa became eighty Yojana wide. Then Hanuman grew to ninety Yojanas like a mountain. Then Surasa's mouth became hundred Yojanas wide.

sō'bhipatyāśu tadvaktraṁ niṣpatya ca mahābalaḥ|
antarikṣē sthitaḥ śrīmān idaṁ vacanamabravīt ||159||

sa|| subuddhimān vāyuputtraḥ surasayā vyāditaṁ dīrghajihvaṁ sughōraṁ taṁ āsyaṁ dr̥ṣṭvā ātmanaḥ kāyaṁ aṁguṣṭamātrakaḥ babhūva ||śrīmān mahābalaḥ saḥ āśu tadvakraṁ abhipatya nipatya ca antarikṣē sthitaḥ idaṁ vacanam abravīt||

The very intelligent Hanuman seeing the terrifying mouth with long tongue thus opened , made himself to be of the size of a thumb. The illustrious and mighty Hanuman quickly entered her mouth and came out. Standing in the sky said the following words.

ślō|| praviṣṭō'smi hi tē vaktraṁ dākṣāyanī namōstutē|
gamiṣyē yatra vaidēhī satyaṁ cāsīdvarastava ||160||
taṁ dr̥ṣṭvā vadānānmuktaṁ candraṁ rāhumukhādiva|
abravītsurasā dēvī svēna rūpēṇa vānaram||161||

sa|| dākṣāyaṇi tē vaktraṁ praviṣṭaḥ asmi hi | tē varaḥ satyaṁ āsīt | tē namaḥ astu | (ahaṁ) yatravaidēhī (tatra) gamiṣyē||rāhumukhāt candraṁ iva vadanāt muktaṁ taṁ vānaraṁ dr̥ṣṭvā surasā dēvī svēna rūpēṇa abravīt||

' Dakshyani ! I have entered your mouth. You boon has come true. Salutations to you. I will go where Vaidehi is' . Seeing the Vanara like Moon released from the mouth of Rahu, Surasa assuming her own form said the following.

ślō|| arthasidhyai hariśrēṣṭha gacchasaumya yathāsukham|
samānayasva vaidēhīṁ rāghavēṇa mahātmanā ||162||
tatr̥tīyaṁ hanumatō dr̥ṣṭvā karma suduṣkaram|
sādhu sādhviti bhūtāni praśaśaṁsuḥ tadā harim ||163||

sa|| hariśrēṣṭha saumya yathāsukhaṁ arthyasiddhyai gaccha |vaidēhīṁ rāghavēṇa samānaya||tat hanumataḥ ( hanumatasya) tr̥tīyaṁ suduṣkaram karma dr̥ṣṭvā tadā sādhu sādhu iti ( sarvāṇi) bhūtāni hanumataḥ praśaśaṁsuḥ||

"Oh The best of Vanaras ! Proceed to accomplish your task. Unite Vaidehi with Raghava". Seeing that accomplishment of a third task which is difficult to accomplish all creatures praised Hanuman and said 'very good, very good'

jagāmākāśamāviśya vēgēna garuḍōpamaḥ||164||
sēvitē vāridārābhiḥ patagaiśca niṣēvitē |
caritē kaiśikācāryaiḥ airāvataniṣēvitē||165||

sa|| vēgēna garuḍōpamaḥ saḥ anādhr̥ṣyam varuṇālayaṁ sāgaraṁ abhyētya ākāśaṁ āviśya jagāma||vāridārābhiḥ sēvitē patagaiśca niṣēvitē kaiśikācāryaiḥ caritē airāvata niṣēvitē (vāyumārgē hanumān jagāma)||

Hanuman flying like Garuda speedily piercing through the invincible ocean , the abode of Varuna , went coursing through the sky. (Hanuman followed the path) frequented by the clouds that release torrents, inhabited by the birds, traversed by the masters of music and dance, attended by Airavata.

sa|| siṁhakuṁjara śārdūla pataga uraga vāhanaiḥ saṁpatbhiḥ vimalaiḥ samalaṁkr̥tē vimānaiḥ (caritē mārgē hanumān jagāma)||vajrāśanisamāghātaiḥ pāvakaiḥ kr̥tapuṇyaiḥ svargajidbhiḥ mahābhāgaiḥ upaśōbhitē (caritē mārgē hanumān jagāma)|| ||

Frequented by the well decorated aerial vehicles drawn by lions, elephants, tigers, birds serpents, Frequented by the gods of fire who strike fiercely like a thunderbolt, those who have done meritorious deeds, those accomplished people who have conquered heaven, looking splendid,

maharṣi gaṇa gandharva nāgayakṣa samākulē

sa|| atyarthaṁ alaṁkr̥tē havyaṁ vahatā citrabhānunā sēvitē grahanakṣatra candrārkatārāgaṇavibhūṣitē ( ākāśa mārgē hanumān jagāma)||maharṣi gaṇa gandharva nāga yakṣa samākulē viviktē vimalē viśvē viśvāvasu niṣēvitē (mārgē hanumān jagāma)

The path was frequented by the god of Fire carrying the Havis decorated splendidly , adorned with planets , stars, Moon and other constellations. Filled with groups of great Rishis, Gandharvas, Nagas, Yakshas , with isolated clear region inhabited by Viswavasu.

vitānē jīvalōkasya vitatē brahmanirmitē ||170||
bahuśassēvitē vīrai rvidyādharagaṇairvaraiḥ|
jagāma vāyu mārgētu garutmāniva mārutaḥ||171||

sa|| dēvarāja gajākrāntē caṁdrasūryapathē śivē jīvalōkasya brahma nirmitē vitatē vitānē (mārgē hanumān jagāma) || varaiḥ vīraiḥ vidyādharagaṇaiḥ bahuśaḥ sēvitē vāyumārgē mārutiḥ garutmāniva jagāma||

It is the sporting ground of the elephant of king of Devas, the path of Sun and Moon, auspicious place of living beings created by Brahma, the extensive canopy covering the earth. Like Garuda Hanuman traversed that path traversed by the groups of Vidyadharas who are best of heroes.

bhējē' mbaram nirālambaṁ lambapakṣa ivādrirāṭ||172||
plavamānaṁ tu taṁ dr̥ṣṭvā siṁhikā nāma rākṣasī|
manasā cintayāmāsa pravr̥ddhā kāmarūpiṇī ||173||

sa|| hanumān mārutātmajaḥ sarvatra pradr̥śyamānaḥ nirālaṁbaṁ laṁbapakṣaḥ adrirāṭ iva bhējē|| plavamānaṁ taṁ dr̥ṣṭvā siṁhikā nāmā rākṣasī pravr̥ddhā kāmarūpiṇī cintayāmāsa||

Hanuman , the son of wind god, being seen everywhere in the sky, was looking like a mountain with wings flying unsupported in the sky. Seeing that Hanuman flying like that, a Rakshasi by name Simhika who can assume any form expanded in her size started thinking.

ślō|| adya dīrghasya kālasya bhaviṣyāmyahamāśitā |
idaṁ hi mē mahat satvaṁ cirasya vaśamāgatam||174||
iti sañcitya manasā chāyamasya samākṣipat |
chāyāyāṁ gr̥hyamāṇāyāṁ cintayāmāsa vānaraḥ||175||

sa|| cirasya idaṁ mahat sattvam mē vaśam āgatam | dīrghasya kālasya adya aham āśitā bhaviṣyāmi||(siṁhikā) iti manasā saṁcitya asya (kapisya) chāyām samākṣipat | chāyāyām gr̥hyamāṇāyām vānaraḥ ciṁtayāmāsa||

' After a long time this great being has come into my fold. Today I will be satiated' . (Simhika) having thought like this , pulled his shadow. Being held by the shadow the Vanara started thinking.

ślō|| samākṣiptō'smi sahasā paṁgūkr̥ta parākramaḥ|
pratilōmēna vātēna mahānauriva sāgarē||176||
tiryagūrdhvamathaścaiva vīkṣamāṇastataḥ kapiḥ|
dadarśa sa mahat sattvaṁ utthitaṁ lavaṇāmbhasi||177||

sa||sāgarē mahānauriva pratilōmēna vātēna sahasā paṁgūkr̥ta mānaḥ samākṣiptaḥ asmi||tataḥ (hanumān) tiryak ūrdhvam athaścaiva vīkṣamāṇaḥ lavaṇāmbhasi utthitam mahat sattvaṁ dadarśa||

'Like the ship in the sea caught by the opposing wind, I have been caught and become powerless'. Then Hanuman looking up down, across saw the great creature risen up in the waters of the sea.

ślō|| tadr̥ṣṭvā cintayāmāsa mārutirvikr̥tānanaḥ|
kapirājēna kathitaṁ sattvamadbhuta darśanam||178||
chāyāgrāhī mahāvīryaṁ tadidaṁ nātra saṁśayaḥ|
sa tāṁ budvārthatatvēna siṁhikāṁ matimānkapiḥ||179||
vyavarthata mahākāyaḥ pāvr̥ṣīva valāhakaḥ|

sa||mārutiḥ tat vikr̥tānanam dr̥ṣṭvā ciṁtayāmāsa | kapirājēna kathitam adbhutadarśanaṁ mahāvīryaṁ chāyāgrāhī mahāvīryaṁ tat sattvaṁ idaṁ atra na saṁśayaḥ na ||matimān sa kapiḥ tām arthatattvēna siṁhikām buddhvā mahākāyaḥ prāvr̥ṣi valāhakaḥ iva vyavarthata ||

Maruti seeing that ugly faced one started thinking. This is no doubt the amazing to look at , powerful creature capable of capturing the shadow, as told by the King of Vanaras. The wise Hanuman recognizing the true nature of Simhika, grew like a cloud in a rainy season.

ślō|| tasya sā kāyamudvīkṣya vardhamānaṁ mahākapēḥ||180||
vaktraṁ prasāramāyāsa pātāḷāṁtara sannibham|
ghanarājīva garjaṁtī vānaraṁ samabhidravat||181||
sa dadarśa tatastasyā vivr̥taṁ sumahānmukham|
kāyamātraṁ ca mēdhāvī marmāṇi ca mahākapiḥ||182||

sa|| (sā siṁhikā) pātāḷāṁtara sannibhaṁ vaktraṁ prasārayāmāsa | ghanarājīva garjantī vānaraṁ samabhidravat ||tataḥ mēdhāvī mahākapiḥ tasyāḥ vivr̥tam kāyamātraṁ sumahat mukham marmāṇi ca saḥ dadarśa||

That Simhika extended her mouth having the depth of underworld. Roaring like heavy clouds, she ran towards the Vanara. Then the great intelligent Vanara saw the enormous open mouth and body alone and vital parts too.

ślō|| sa tasyā vivr̥tē vaktrē vajrasaṁhananaḥ kapiḥ|
saṁkṣiptya muhurātmānaṁ niṣpapāta mahābalaḥ||183||
asyē tasyā nimajjaṁtaṁ dadr̥śu siddhacāraṇāḥ|
grasyamānaṁ yathā candraṁ pūrṇaṁ parvaṇi rāhuṇā||184||

sa|| mahābalaḥ vajrasaṁhananaḥ saḥ kapiḥ ātmānam muhuḥ saṁkṣiptya tasyāḥ vivr̥tē vaktrē niṣpapāta||siddha cāraṇāḥ tasyāḥ āsyē nimajjaṁtaṁ parvaṇi rāhunā grasyamānaṁ pūrṇaṁ caṁdra yathā dadr̥śu||

The mighty Vanara with thunderbolt like physiques contracted himself and entered her open mouth. The Siddhas and Charanas saw him drowning in her mouth like the full moon on the on the full moon day being grabbed by Rahu.

ślō|| tatastasyā nakhaistīkṣṇairmarmāṇyutkr̥tya vānaraḥ|
utpapātha vēgēna manaḥ saṁpātavikramaḥ||185||
tāṁ tu dr̥ṣṭyā ca dhr̥tyāca dākṣiṇyēna nipātya ca|
sa kapipravarō vēgādvavr̥dhē punarātmavān |186||

sa||tataḥ vānaraḥ tīkṣṇaiḥ nakhaiḥ tasyāḥ marmāṇi utkr̥tya manaḥ saṁpātavikramaḥ vēgēna utpapāta|| saḥ kapi pravaraḥ tām dr̥ṣṭvā ca dhr̥tyā ca dākṣiṇyēna nipātya punaḥ vēgāt ātmavān vavr̥dhē||

Then the Vanara tearing her vital parts with his sharp nails with the speed of mind in action quickly rushed out. The self-controlled great Vanara, with firmness of mind and ingenuity, seeing her threw her down again and rapidly grew in size.

tāṁ hatāṁ vānarēṇāśu patitāṁ vīkṣya siṁhikām||187||
bhūtānyākāśacārīṇi tamūcuḥ plavagōttamam|
bhīmamadyakr̥taṁ karma mahat satvaṁ tvayā hatam||188||
sādhayārthamabhiprētaṁ ariṣṭaṁ plavatāṁ vara|

sa|| sā hanumatā hruhrut vidhurā vānarēṇa āsu hatāṁ ambasi papāta|patitām tāṁ vīkṣya ākāśacārīṇi bhūtāni plavagōttamam ūcuḥ||plavatāṁ varaḥadya tvayā mahat sattvaṁ hatam| bhīmam karma kr̥tam| (tava) abhiprētam artham ariṣṭam sādhaya |

With the heart torn , the miserable one instantly killed by Hanuman dropped down in the sea. Seeing her who has fallen down the beings who travel the sky addressed the best of Vanaras. ' Oh best of flyers ! Today you have killed a great being. Fierce task was done. Fulfil your mission unobstructed'.

dhr̥tirdr̥ṣṭirmati dākṣyaṁ svakarmasu sīdati|
sataiḥ saṁbhāvitaḥ pūjyaḥ pratipanna prayōjanaḥ||190||

sa|| vānarēṁdra yasya dhr̥tiḥ dr̥ṣṭiḥ matiḥ dākṣyaṁ ētāni catvāri tava yathā saḥ karmasu na sīdati||pūjyaḥ saḥ kapiḥ taiḥ sambhāvitaḥ pratipannaprayōjanaḥ ākāśaṁ āviśya pannagāśanavat jagāma||

'Oh Best of Vanaras ! The one who has fortitude, vision, intelligence and dexterity like you will achieve his mission and will not be lost '. The venerable one that Vanara thus honored having ascended the skies flew like Garuda to achieve his objective.

ślō|| prāptabhūyiṣṭa pārastu parvataḥ pratilōkayan ||191||
yōjanānāṁ śatasyāntē vanarājiṁ dadarśa saḥ|
dadarśa ca patannēva vividha drumabhūṣitam||192||
dvīpaṁ śākhāmr̥gaśrēṣṭhō malayōpavanāni ca|

sa|| ( hanumān) śatasya yōjanānām antē prāpabhūyiṣṭha pāraḥ sarvataḥ pratilōkayan vanarājim dadarśa||śākhāmr̥ga śrēṣṭhaḥ patannēva vividhadrumabhūṣitaṁ dvīpaṁ malayōpavanāni ca dadarśa||

Having reached the other shore as he looked around, the Vanara saw rows of trees at the end of hundred Yojanas. Hanuman the best among creatures that jump on trees , even while flying saw the island adorned with many trees and garden bordering the Malaya mountain.

ślō|| sāgaraṁ sāgarānūpaṁ sāgarā nūpajāndrumān ||193||
sāgarasya ca patnīnāṁ mukhānyapi vilōkayan|
sa mahāmēghasaṅkāśaṁ samīkṣyātmāna mātmavān||194||
niruṁdhata mivākāśaṁ cakāra matimānmatim|

sa|| sāgaraṁ sāgarānūpaṁ sāgarānūpajān drumān sāgarasya patnīnāṁ (nadīnāṁ) mukhānyapi vilōkayan saḥ mahāmēghasaṁkāśaṁ ākāśaṁ niruṁdhata miva ātmavān samīkṣya (hanumān) matiṁ cakāra||

Looking at the ocean he observed the sea, the land bordering the sea, the trees grown on the land bordering the sea, and the mouth of the branches of the sea , looking at his own body of the size of a cloud as though obstructing the sky thought as follows.

ślō|| kāyavr̥ddhiṁ pravēgaṁ ca mamadr̥ṣṭvaiva rākṣasāḥ||195||
mayi kautūhalaṁ kuryuriti mēnē mahākapiḥ|
tataḥ śarīraṁ saṁkṣipya tanmahīdharasannibham||196||
punaḥ prakr̥ti māpēdē vītamōhā ivātmavān|

sa|| mama kāyavr̥ddhiṁ pravēgaṁ ca dr̥ṣṭvaiva rākṣasāḥ mayi kautūhalam kuryuḥ iti mahākapiḥ mēnē||tataḥ tat mahīdhara sannibham tat śarīraṁ saṁkṣipya vītamōhaḥ ātmavāniva punaḥ prakr̥tiṁ āpēdē||

The great Vanara thought that seeing my increased size of body and the speed the Rakshasas will be inquisitive about me. Then having contracted his body which is like a mountain, getting rid of his attachment, once again resumed his normal form.

ślō|| tadrūpa mati saṁkṣipya hanumān prakr̥tau sthitaḥ||
trīnkramāniva vikramya balivīryaharō hariḥ||197||

sa|| hanumān tat rūpaṁ atisaṁkṣipya balivīryaharaḥ hariḥ trīn kramān vikramya iva prakr̥tau sthitaḥ ||

Then Hanuman contracting himself to be of a very small size , like Vishnu the vanquisher of Bali with three steps, stood in his normal form.

ślō|| sa cārunānāvidharūpadhārī
paraṁ samāsādya samudra tīram|
parairaśakyaḥ pratipannarūpaḥ
samīkṣitātmā samavēkṣitārthaḥ||198||

sa|| cārunānāvidharūpadhārī paraiḥ aśakyaḥ saḥ paraṁ samudratīram samāsādya samīkṣitātmā pratipannarūpaḥ samavēkṣitārthaḥ||

The one who can take different forms, having reached the other shore of the ocean which is impossible for others, looking at his own self assumed a form suitable for the purpose.

ślō|| tatassalambasya girēḥ samr̥ddhē
vicitra kūṭē nipapāta kūṭē|
sakēta kōddālakanāḷikērē
mahādrikūṭa pratimō mahātmā||199||

sa|| tataḥ mahātrikūṭapratimaḥ saḥ mahātmā lambasya girēḥ vicitrakūṭē samr̥ddhē sakētakōddālakanālikērē pratimau nipapāta kūṭē||

Then the great soul , who resembled a great mountain descended on the top of Lamba mountain which is full of fruits and blossoms of Ketaka, Uddalaka, Narikela tress with many wonderful peaks.

ślō|| tatastu saṁprāpya samudra tīraṁ
samīkṣya laṅkāṁ girivaryamūrdhni|
kapistu tasmin nipapāta parvatē
vidhūya rūpaṁ vyadhayan mr̥gadvijān||200||

sa||tataḥ samudratīraṁ saṁprāpya kapiḥ tu tasmin parvatē nipapāta mr̥gadvijān vyadhayan rūpaṁ vidhūya girivaryamūrdhni (saḥ) laṁkāṁ samīkṣya ||

Having reached the seashore, then observing the Lanka located on top of the mountain , Hanuman shook his body which scared the beasts and birds on the mountain he landed.

ślō|| sa sāgaraṁ dānavapannagāyutam
balēna vikramya mahōrmimālinam|
nipatya tīrē ca mahōdadhē stadā
dadarśa laṅkāṁ amarāvatīm iva|| 201||

Having crossed with his prowess the ocean filled with demons and serpents, having landed on the shore Hanuman saw Lanka adorned with garlands of waves which is like the city of Amaravati

ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē vālmīkīyē
caturviṁśat sahasrikāyāṁ saṁhitāyām
śrīmatsundarakāṇḍē prathamassargaḥ||

Thus ends the first Sarga of Sundarakanda in Ramayana the first poem ever composed by the first poet Valmiki.
